Book of Romans Chapter 2 (Critics) Bible Study

Book of Romans Chapter 2 (Critics) Bible Study
[Note to Blog Readers: Expositor Notes Are in Bold Italic Font]

God is an Awesome God and a Forgiving God and He truly Blesses His Children.

God has maid great changes in my heart, mind, life and soul. When you give your life 100% to God and live your life in repentance, which helps to keep you in check, God opens doors, where you know you are Saved and Heaven bound. I felt that reborn again experience all last week and I am on fire for God and this is something everyone needs to hear. Before we get started with this weeks study, I am going talk about some things that will tie into this study. I get this all the time when I am telling others about what Scripture say’s about what other individuals are saying and doing, they say things like, “Don’t Judge me, God is the only one who can Judge me”, friends, warning or telling others what Scripture says is not judging. If you take one verse without reading other verses, you are taking one scripture out of context. We are to judge, with righteous judgments. We are to judge bad fruit, the heart and motives is the (ONLY THING THAT WE CANNOT JUDGE, THAT'S GOD’S JOB). A Christian that is Saved, is called a Saint, when you live your life by reading the Word of God and applying His Word in your life and when you do something wrong and you realized it, and you take the time to repent to God immediately, or if you don’t realize it until later and then you turn to God in repentance, you are still Saved. A Saved person is not a hypocrite. The Saved Christian is a Saint, due to the Grace that he lives in the sight of God. An hypocrite is a person who says they have repented but yet, continue to do the same things over and over again, without change and try to correct someone else when they had no change in there lives and has not truly turned to God, that is what a  hypocrite is. As I explained earlier, a Saint is a Christian who has turned everything over to God and living in repentance and living right in the Grace of God, is called a Saint. Those of you who call the Cross old fashion, most of your local “Churches”, that say that you have to be Water Baptized for the means of Salvation and to get to Heaven, are praising and Worshiping men and not God. Not only that, you are also committing to a war with God. To be Saved by the Grace of God, you only need to repent to God, Accept Jesus Christ into your hearts, believe and have Faith in what Jesus Christ did at the Cross and His Crucifixion and Resurrection, you then will be Baptized by the Holy Ghost, that is what Saves, not Works, which is what Water Baptism is, Jesus Christ Already did the Works for us on the Cross. Shame on those who lives by the Mosaic Law. Glory to God for those who are Living under the New Covenant. Lets get started

Romans 2:1-29 (KJV)

1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whosoever you are who judges (presents this segment as directed to the Jews): for where in you judge another, you condemn yourself (in effect, says that God judges one who judges another in the same manner in which he himself has judged, hence, “condemning himself” [Mat. 7:1-2]); for you who judge do the same things (in effect, says that the Jews were no better than the Gentiles, whom they constantly berated). 2 But we are sure that the Judgment of God is according to Truth (proclaims that which is never of presumption) against them which commit such things (proclaims a perfect Judgment, because it comes from Truth). 3 And do you think this, O man, who judges them which do such things, and do the same (you, the Jew), that you shall escape the Judgment of God? (Many Jews thought the privilege of birth as a Jew would of itself insure his entrance into the Kingdom [Mat. 3:8-9].) 4 Or despise you the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering (presents the Jew as holding these things in contempt, thinking that they were worthy of such); not knowing that the goodness of God leads you (trying to lead you) to Repentance? 5 But after your hardness and impenitent heart (speaks of a hardness toward God, with a refusal to repent) treasured up unto yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the Righteous Judgment of God (Judgment was building up, and ultimately exploded over the Jews; we speak of A.D. 70); 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds (we reap what we sow!): 7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing (portrays those who are not trusting in place or position for their Salvation, but rather in Christ) seek for glory and honour and immortality, Eternal Life (this speaks of that which comes exclusively from God): 8 But unto them who are contentious (carries the idea of contending with God), and do not obey the Truth (attempt to devise a way other than Christ and Him Crucified), but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath (the opposite of Truth), 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man who does evil (presents the natural results of the unnatural act of sin), of the Jew first (held more responsible), and also of the Gentile (will answer as well!); 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man who works good (presents God’s logic, which proclaims if certain things are done, certain things will follow), to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile (is given again to show the place of prominence respecting the Jew, but which they forfeited): 11 For there is no respect of persons with God (literally translated, the Verse reads, “for there is not a receiving of face in the Presence of God”; it means that God doesn’t receive or accept anyone’s face, irrespective as to whom they might be). 12 For as many as have sinned without Law shall also perish without Law (while the Lord will not hold the Gentiles accountable to the Law of Moses regarding Old Testament times, this in no way means that He will not hold them accountable for their sin; the fact of sin is not abrogated in any case respecting ignorance): and as many as have sinned in the Law shall be judged by the Law (in effect, places the Jew in a more responsible and even fearful situation); 13 (For not the hearers of the Law are just before God (the mere having of the Law, or even hearing the Law, saves no one), but the doers of the Law shall be justified (is used by Paul in this manner to make a point; he is not meaning that the keeping of the Law of Moses could actually bring Justification; in fact, due to man’s fallen condition, he could not keep the Law). 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the Law (Law of Moses), do by nature the things contained in the Law (their conscience told them some semblance of right and wrong), these, having not the Law, are a Law unto themselves (at Great White Throne Judgment, God will Judge the Gentile world which existed before the Law according to that which they did know; once again, this has nothing to do with Salvation; ignorance has never brought Salvation): 15 Which show the work of the Law written in their hearts (means that no one, whomever they might be and wherever they might be, is absent of all Light), their conscience also bearing witness (but which can be seared), and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another (conscience does not prove a reliable guide, as is proclaimed here);) 16 In the day when God shall Judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ (lays to rest any idea that Judgment will be on any other basis; while many other things, such as conscience, may be a witness, still Jesus Alone is the criteria) according to my Gospel (Jesus Christ and Him crucified). 17 Behold, you are called a Jew (implying special favor from God), and rest in the Law (presents the picture of a blind and mechanical reliance on the Mosaic Law which could not save, and had never been meant to save), and make your boast of  God (glorying in who they were), 18 And know His Will (Israel had the literal Word of God, which no other Nation in the world had at that time), and approve the things that are more excellent (they had proved the Word over and over), being instructed out of the Law (in essence means that they were instructed by the very Mouth of God); 19 And are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind (the Jews were meant by God to be the guides of the Gentiles, to lead them to the Lord), a light of them which are in darkness (it was always God’s Will that His Word, Will, and Way, be given to the entirety of mankind), 20 An instructor of the foolish (the Gentile world was foolish in their worship of their gods of human invention), a teacher of babes (presents the Holy Spirit looking at Greek Philosophers as no more than infants), which have the form of knowledge and of the truth of the Law (the Jews had the Word of God, which put them light years ahead of the balance of mankind). 21 You therefore which teach another, do you not teach yourself? (The Jews made fun of the Gentile world, but little applied themselves to the Law, at least as they should have.) you who preach a man should not steal, do you steal? (Most of them did!) 22 You who say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? (Many did!) you who abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege? (In a sense, the Holy Spirit through Paul is placing Israel in the same state as the Gentile world.) 23 You who make your boast of the Law, through breaking the Law you dishonor God? (In other words, due to having the Law and not keeping the Law, they were dishonoring God, even more than the Gentiles were.) 24 For the Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you (proclaims the Jews bringing reproach upon the Lord by living in open contradiction to their own profession), as it is written (Isa. 52:5). 25 For Circumcision verily profits, if you keep the Law (in other words, Circumcision profited nothing if they were breaking the Law of God): but if you be a breaker of the Law, your Circumcision is made uncircumcision (proclaims the fact that religious rites, no matter how much God-given, contain no properties of Salvation). 26 Therefore if the uncircumcision (Gentiles) keep the Righteousness of the Law (through Jesus Christ), shall not his uncircumcision be counted for Circumcision? (This proclaims that one’s trust in Jesus satisfies the demands of the Law and, thereby, secures the “Righteousness of the Law,” which, in fact, is the only way it can be secured.) 27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the Law, judge you (proclaims the obvious results of the changed life upon Faith in Christ), who by the letter and Circumcision do transgress the Law? (This speaks of the Jews who, outside of Christ, try to keep the letter of the Law by engaging in all of its Rituals, but continue to transgress the Law. In other words, what they are doing doesn’t change their lives.) 28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly (completely destroys national Salvation); neither is that Circumcision, which is outward in the flesh (the mere Ritual is no true Circumcision at all, and spiritually affords nothing): 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly (it is only the work carried out by Christ inwardly which constitutes Salvation); and Circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit (refers to the “heart” of the individual being changed, which is done in one’s spirit and speaks of being “Born-Again”), and not in the letter (refers to the rules and regulations of the Law of Moses, or even such in the Church); whose praise is not of men, but of God (keeping religious Rituals garners the praise of men, but not of God; men can truly praise God only when they truly accept Christ, which means to truly trust Christ and not men’s religious Rituals).

Matthew 7:1-2 (KJV)

1 Judge not, that you be not judged (this statement by Christ harks back to Verses 25 through 34 of the previous Chapter; the idea is, God may permit poverty to test His Child, but fellow Believers are not to err, as Job’s friends did, and believe the trial to be a judgment for secret sin; as well, the word, “judging,” as used here, covers every aspect of dealing with our fellowman). 2 For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged (whatever motive we ascribe to others, such motive will ultimately be ascribed to us): and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again (a double emphasis is given here in order to proclaim the seriousness of the Words of our Lord; when we judge others, we are judging ourselves).

Matthew 3:8-9 (KJV)

8 Bring forth therefore fruits (evidence) meet for (befitting) Repentance: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father (pride): for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham (the Lord has raised up the Gentiles as children unto Abraham [Gal. 3:7, 14]).

Galatians 3:7, 14 (KJV)

7 Know you therefore that they which are of Faith (presents Faith, and Faith alone, as the foundation; but the Object of Faith must ever be the Cross), the same are the children of Abraham (the legitimate sons of Abraham). 14 That the blessing of Abraham (Justification by Faith) might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ (what He did at the Cross); that we might receive the Promise of the Spirit through Faith. (All sin was atoned at the Cross, which lifted the sin debt from believing man, making it possible for the Holy Spirit to come into the life of the Believer and abide there forever [Jn. 14:16-17].)

John 14:16-17 (KJV)

16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter (“Parakletos,” which means “One called to the side of another to help”), that He may abide with you forever (before the Cross, the Holy Spirit could only help a few individuals, and then only for a period of time; since the Cross, He lives in the hearts and lives of Believers, and does so forever); 17 Even the Spirit of Truth (the Greek says, “The Spirit of the Truth,” which refers to the Word of God; actually, He does far more than merely superintend the attribute of Truth, as Christ “is Truth” [I Jn. 5:6]); Whom the world cannot receive (the Holy Spirit cannot come into the heart of the unbeliever until that person makes Christ his or her Saviour; then He comes in), because it sees Him not, neither knows Him (refers to the fact that only Born-Again Believers can understand the Holy Spirit and know Him): but you know Him (would have been better translated, “But you shall get to know Him”); for He dwells with you (before the Cross), and shall be in you (which would take place on the Day of Pentecost and forward, because the sin debt has been forever paid by Christ on the Cross, changing the disposition of everything).

1 John 5:6 (KJV)

6 This is He Who came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ (refers to the Living Word becoming flesh [Jn. 1:1, 4], which is symbolized by “water” and then as the Lamb of God Who took away the sin of the world, which was effected by the shedding of His Blood on the Cross of Calvary); not by water only, but by water and blood (testifies to the fact that the Incarnation within itself, although absolutely necessary, was not enough; the phrase also testifies to the absolute necessity of the Atonement). And it is the Spirit Who bears witness, because the Spirit is Truth. (The Holy Spirit bore witness to the Divine Birth of Christ, and to the Divine Sacrifice of Christ [Mat. 1:18; Heb. 9:14].)

John 1:1, 4 (KJV)

1 In the beginning (does not infer that Christ as God had a beginning, because as God He had no beginning, but rather refers to the time of Creation [Gen. 1:1]) was the Word (the Holy Spirit through John describes Jesus as “the Eternal Logos”), and the Word was with God (“was in relationship with God,” and expresses the idea of the Trinity), and the Word was God (meaning that He did not cease to be God during the Incarnation; He “was” and “is” God from eternity past to eternity future). 4 In Him was Life (presents Jesus, the Eternal Logos, as the first cause); and the Life was the Light of men (He Alone is the Life Source of Light; if one doesn’t know Christ, one is in darkness).

Genesis 1:1 (KJV)

1 In the beginning (refers to the beginning of creation, or at least the creation as it refers to this universe; God, unformed, unmade, uncreated, had no beginning; He always was, always is, and always shall be) God (the phrase, “In the beginning God,” explains the first cause of all things as it regards creation) created the heaven and the Earth (could be translated “the heavens and the Earth” because God created the entirety of the universe).

Matthew 1:18 (KJV)

18 Now the Birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as His Mother Mary was espoused (engaged) to Joseph, before they came together (before they were married), she was found with Child of the Holy Spirit (by decree of the Holy Spirit).

Hebrews 9:14 (KJV)

14 How much more shall the Blood of Christ (while the Sacrifice of animals could cleanse from ceremonial defilement, only the Blood of Christ could cleanse from actual sin; so that throws out every proposed solution other than the Cross), Who through the Eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God (in this phrase, we learn Christ did not die until the Holy Spirit told Him to die; in fact, no man took His Life from Him; He laid it down freely [Jn. 10:17-18]; as well, the fact that Jesus “offered Himself without spot to God” shoots down the unscriptural doctrine that “Jesus died Spiritually” on the Cross; had He died Spiritually, meaning He became a sinner on the Cross, He could not have offered Himself without spot to God, as should be obvious; God could only accept a Perfect Sacrifice; when He died on the Cross, He took upon Himself the sin penalty of the human race, which was physical death; inasmuch as His Offering of Himself was Perfect, God accepted it as payment in full for all sin — past, present, and future, at least for those who will believe [Jn. 3:16]), purge your conscience from dead works to serve the Living God? (“Dead works” are anything other than simple Faith in the Cross of Christ, i.e., “the Blood of Christ.”)

John 10:17-18 (KJV)

17 Therefore does My Father love Me (proclaims that what Christ was to do held a special value in God’s Heart), because I lay down My Life (the entirety of the idea of the Incarnation was to purposely “lay down His Life”), that I might take it again (the Resurrection). 18 No man takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself (His Death was not an execution nor an assassination, it was a Sacrifice; the idea is that He allowed His Death to take place). I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again (proclaims that what He did, He did voluntarily; He did not step out of the path of obedience, for He died as commanded). This Commandment have I received of My Father (this means that God the Father gave Him the latitude to do what He desired, and His desire was to do the Will of God; so He purposely laid down His Life).

John 3:16 (KJV)

16 For God so loved the world (presents the God kind of love), that He gave His Only Begotten Son (gave Him up to the Cross, for that’s what it took to redeem humanity), that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.

Isaiah 52:5 (KJV)

5 Now therefore, what have I here, says the LORD, that My People is taken away for nought? they who rule over them make them to howl, says the LORD; and My Name continually every day is blasphemed. (Cruel taskmasters vexed the captive Israelites by insulting their God. When God’s People are brutally treated and insulted, in effect, God is brutally treated and insulted!)
